Welcome to KarmaYuga: Our Mission Statement
You might be looking at a book about 80s slang and wondering, "What's a 'KarmaYuga'?"
It’s a fair question, and the answer is at the very heart of everything we're trying to build here.
There’s a lot of doom and gloom in the world. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the state of things. Many ancient philosophies believe we are living in the "Kali Yuga"—an age of darkness, a supposed "end times."
That may be true. But we'd like to think we have some say in the matter.
We believe that this isn't the end times. We believe this is the Karma Yuga—a Time of Action.
"Karma" means action. "Yuga" means an era or age. We believe that we are living in a time where our actions, big and small, have the power to shape the world. We can sit back and wait for an end that others predict for us, or we can, through our own thoughtful actions, start building the world we want to see.
That is the mission of KarmaYuga.
So, how does a book about 80s slang fit into such a grand idea?
Because we believe that a positive action can be as simple as putting something into the world that brightens someone's day. It can be an act of remembering, of laughing at a forgotten catchphrase, of sharing a memory with a friend. These books, this entire project, are our "actions." They are our attempt to create small pockets of joy and connection in a world that desperately needs them.
Nostalgia is powerful. It reminds us of simpler times, yes, but it also reminds us of a shared past. It connects us. And in that connection, we find the strength and inspiration to act with a little more thoughtfulness and kindness.
Too many people with far too much power are dictating what our world should be. But their power comes from our inaction. It's time to change that.
Our first action is this book. What will yours be?
Thank you for being here. Welcome to the Karma Yuga.
